From Jesse, a member of the Latin Mass Society of Northeast Missouri: "This story is worth sharing. Just yesterday afternoon,
as I was closing down shop in chem lab, Andrew Cowan (altar server)
walks in and announces he will be running through some server training
exercises with Connor Scearce in my classroom. Connor is the ninth
grader who "served" (observed, mostly) during Mass in Marcelline
recently. Andrew is now a Truman student; Connor is in my ninth grade
physical science class. This means that Andrew coordinated a server
"workshop" and drove to KHS, on his own time, to make this happen. And
for the record: I had nothing to do with it or prior knowledge of it. I
suspect that most of us don't fully appreciate the commitment these
young men make when learning to serve Mass. This is HOW and WHERE vocations
begin. I've seen it at St. Rose in Quincy, which has been our home in
exile these past four years. The Mass of Ages, that which produced
countless saints and martyrs, has captivated them. Inspired them.
Changed their lives - an "encounter," to use the latest
NewEvangelization™ buzz phrase. Let's all remember to THANK these
young men after the next Mass for their humble example, their service to
God and the enrichment of our SOULS." |
