Frigid weather, snow, and ice were not obstacles. Our official
'attendance counter' reports that we had at least 56 of the Faithful for
Holy Mass at St. Rose on Sunday. What a joyful and grace-filled Holy
Mass! We are grateful Father Drew made the drive from Trenton – as well
as others coming from Marceline, Kirksville, Milan, Moberly, and as
far away as near Liberty, Mo. and Quincy, Ill. How about that? Father Kevin Drew invites all who can make it to St. Joseph Parish in Trenton for the Candlemas Mass this Saturday, February 2nd, at 8:30 am. Although somewhat ignored in modern times, it is one of
the Holiest Feasts of the entire Liturgical Year. The blessing of
candles, which takes place on this Feast, is one of the three principal
popular blessings conferred by the Church. Ashes and palms are the other
two. Candlesmas commemorates the Feast of PURIFICATION OF MARY, since
this was the day Mary was presented in the temple for purification, 40
days after she gave birth. We are blessed that Father Kevin Drew, pastor
of St. Joseph's will celebrate Candlemas Mass for us; which includes a
procession and blessing of the candles. It will be absolutely
beautiful. All are welcome! Looking ahead, Father Drew also invites us to St. Joseph Parish in Trenton on Tuesday, March 19, at 6:00 pm for a High Mass celebrating the Feast of St. Joseph. The Music will be provided by the Benedictines of Mary Queen of the Apostles from Gower, MO. What a rare event for Northern Missouri! |
